Should you find yourself in the middle of the Arabian desert in your Land Rover with an empty gas tank and no food to speak of, you can eat the provided survival book. No, really.
Though you might not want to jump right in for a feast. The book itself has been provided by Land Rover for all of their customers in Dubai who might be taking their Land Rover out for a drive through the desert. Smartly, it provides important tips on staying alive in the desert - from which animals are best to avoid to which plants are the best to eat. The book is even bound with a metal wire than can be used for cooking. But that's not all.
The ink and paper are edible, and it has a nutritional value close to that of a cheeseburger. And yes, it's called "In Case of Emergency: Eat This Book."
They only printed 5,000 copies to start, and gave it away to Land Rover owners in the area. But people loved the idea so much, Land Rover decided to add it as a supplement to the regular manual, and brought it to local sports shops. Now, it's available as a tear-out in an automotive magazine in Dubai, and there will be more than 70,000 copies in circulation.
We know that Land Rover drivers can be pretty daring, pushing their cars to their limits - but we hope they never have to eat their survival manual.
But, if you think you're up for a new adventure, we invite you to come check out the entire lineup of new Land Rover models here in Honolulu at Jaguar/Land Rover of Honolulu. A member of our team is happy to answer your questions and provide you with further details about all of the very many places your Land Rover is equipped to go - with or without an edible survival manual.
