The Land Rover Manufacturing Plant near Birmingham, England, is celebrating something pretty special this month. It's the 1,000,000th Land Rover Discovery - better known as the Land Rover LR4 in America - and Land Rover is celebrating this accomplishment with what they're calling a 'Journey of Discovery.'
That's right, the one-millionth Discovery will begin its journey in Birmingham and will travel for 50 days and 8,000 miles before reaching its final destination in China for the Beijing Motor Show on April 23rd. But there's more to this than just taking the Discovery around the world - Land Rover hopes to raise more than $1.5-million (the equivalent of 1 million British pounds) for their Global Humanitarian Partner, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Services (IFRC).
Mark Cameron, Land Rover Gloval Brand Extension Director explains, "Land Rover is delighted to launch the One Million Pound fundraiser in aid of the IFRC - an organization we have had a relationship with since 1954. The funds will be used directly by the IFRC, over a three-year period and will be donated to water sanitation project in Uganda, with over 45,000 beneficiaries."2
We look forward to watching the Land Rover journey through Europe and Asia on its way to Beijing. And we applaud all of the many people it takes to reach such an important production milestone - and of course we're looking forward to one million more of some of our favorite new Land Rover models.
