For many drivers across America, winter means challenging road conditions. It could be cold rain, mountains of snow, an ice storm, or maybe just a freak snowstorm. Regardless, winter is inevitable. Or, as Jaguar says, "...[It] comes standard."1. What else does Jaguar say? "Fortunately, so does Winter Mode."2.
That's right; they have added JaguarDrive Control to every new model in their 2012 lineup. And what comes with JaguarDrive Control, but Winter Mode designed especially to negotiate tricky winter driving conditions and keep drivers safe.
How exactly does Jaguar's Winter Mode work? Jaguar/Land Rover Honolulu in Hawaii is happy to tell you even though winters in Hawaii are far from snowy. All drivers need do is activate Winter Mode. From there, the car takes over, immediately transforming the manner in which is responds to slick conditions. Together, the car's Dynamic Stability Control, powerplant and transmission work to optimize traction.
When using Winter Mode, Jaguar drivers will notice a dampening of the gas pedal. This is intentional and lends enhanced control to help keep the Jaguar hugging the road. Drivers will also notice a difference in the car's transmission gear-change strategy. In Winter Mode, the vehicle will start in second gear, when starting from a level-grounded stop. This is to prevent the tires from spinning out when you first go to accelerate.
