Pouncing on the hybrid segment like the leaping cat it is, Jaguar has developed a high-performance hybrid concept: the C-X75. On June 21, it was not only named the "Most Significant Concept Vehicle of 2011", it earned the Concept Car of the Year Award - the third Jaguar concept to receive such a honor.
Historically, winners of such awards are those concepts which are expected to have the most significant impact in shaping the future of the auto industry. Over 24 jurors served on the panel this year, assessing nearly 30 compelling vehicles in total. But, the decision to choose the Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Concept was easy.
As one juror, Chris Poole, says, "The Jaguar C-X75 is one of the most visually arresting cars ever. Call it aggressive elegance. The novel turbine-based range-extender hybrid powertrain recalls the Chrysler Turbine Car, but looks ahead to what could be a practical alternative to conventional power sources."1
Visually arresting and innovative indeed! The phantom-like Jaguar C-X75 has, in fact, previously been named "Best in Show" by Autoweek and given the 2010 Louis Vuitton Classic Concept award.
What's next? All signs point to the award-winning Jaguar hybrid concept going into production. "Jaguar takes a bold step into its future by announcing the production of Project C-X75 - a state-of-the-art supercar that will be one of the fastest low-emissions vehicles in the world,"2 explains the luxury European automaker.
